How complete this list is
These cases were found by web searches on 26 October 2026, not by querying the US CPSC, Health Canada or EU Safety Gate databases directly, and recalls before 2018 were not searched. A product missing from this page has not been shown to be free of recalls. The regulators' own notices are the record.
Tennis
Health Canada: Yonex junior aluminium racquets (5 November 2025)
Health Canada recalled Yonex Junior Aluminum Tennis Racquets because the butt cap contains phthalates. The notice covers these models:
- Junior: 22YJR21S, 22YJR23S, 22YJR25S
- Osaka Junior: 22NOJR21S, 22NOJR23S, 22NOJR25S
- Kyrgios Junior: 22NKJR21S, 22NKJR23S, 22NKJR25S
According to the notice, 2,749 units were sold in Canada between July 2022 and July 2025, the importer was Yonex Canada of Calgary, and no incidents had been reported in Canada as of 17 October 2025. Health Canada's stated hazard is that studies suggest certain phthalates may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children when soft vinyl containing them is sucked or chewed for long periods. The notice told consumers to stop using the racquets and contact Yonex Canada for a replacement, and says recalled products may not be resold or given away in Canada.
Padel
EU alert A12/01135/22: a Karhu padel racket (12 August 2022)
An alert notified by Finland and published in the EU's weekly RAPEX report of 12 August 2022 (the system is now called Safety Gate) concerned a Karhu padel racket, barcode 6438428810057. Its black plastic handle tape contained about 29 percent by weight of the phthalate DEHP, which did not comply with the REACH Regulation, (EC) 1907/2006, Annex XVII entry 51. The product was withdrawn from the market. This was read from Certifico's reproduction of the weekly report, not from the Safety Gate database, so it is unconfirmed against the regulator's own record.
Badminton
EU alert reported in 2018: a badminton set sold in Germany
The German consumer magazine OKO-TEST reported on 7 April 2018 an EU RAPEX alert on a New Sports badminton set sold in Germany whose handles contained more than 15 percent DEHP, classed as a chemical risk. The report gave no alert number or measures taken, and the alert was not checked against the Safety Gate database, so it is unconfirmed.
Pickleball and squash
No US CPSC, Health Canada or EU Safety Gate recall of a pickleball paddle, a pickleball ball, a squash racket or a squash ball was found in the 26 October 2026 searches.
Not a recall: a California Proposition 65 notice
California Proposition 65 notice 2025-01846, filed on 13 June 2025 by a private enforcer, alleged DEHP in the handle of an Onix pickleball paddle. The California Attorney General's database lists the matter as settled on 29 June 2026 with Indian Industries Inc., with reformulation, warnings or both as the relief. A Proposition 65 notice is a notice under a California law, not a regulator's recall.
Delistings are not recalls
Governing bodies also remove equipment from their lists. These are sanctioning decisions about whether a paddle may be used in tournament play, not consumer safety recalls:
- USA Pickleball paddle sunsets: seven paddle models that exceeded the power limit were sunset for sanctioned tournament play on 1 July 2025, as USA Pickleball announced on 27 December 2024. Later removals, such as one reported in 2026, are on pickleball paddles and approval.
- A maker's "recall" page: Paddletek, the maker, published a "Black Tempest" recall page saying a batch was produced without enough lacquer to keep the surface texture within USA Pickleball limits and was removed from the approved list. That is the maker's statement, seen in a search extract; the page could not be opened and its date is unconfirmed.
- Paddle inspections in British Columbia: CTV News reported on 15 January 2026 that the president of Pickleball B.C. said the body strongly recommends eye protection for recreational players and requires paddle inspections at all sanctioned tournaments, with accredited referees checking paddles by hand for signs of a crushed core. Pickleball Canada did not respond to the reporter. No Pickleball B.C. document was read, so this is unconfirmed.
Approval lists themselves, and what being removed from one means, are explained on each sport's equipment page, starting from the equipment section.
